Fizz Free February
Fizz Free February is a National campaign backed by celebs such as Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall. It recognises the need to reduce sugar in our diets and the role sugary drinks play in over consumption. Public Health England’s dietary advice states that adults should consume no more than 30g of sugar per day, while children aged seven to 10 should have no more than 24g and children aged four to six no more than 19g.
A can of Coca-Cola Classic contains 35g of sugar, which is 145% of a child’s recommended daily sugar intake. Irn-bru still contains 16g
In addition to the sugar, fizzy drinks are highly acidic, ph ranges from 3.7 to 2.38. Enamel disolves below 4. This can cause severe erosive wear of the teeth.
