Dentistry as a Career: Rewards and Challenges

Another great day at this year’s careers fair in Abingdon — and it felt busier than ever.

Dentistry is becoming increasingly competitive to get into, but what was most encouraging was how many students were genuinely eager to learn about the profession and healthcare in general.
For anyone considering dentistry as a career, the job is about far more than teeth alone. It combines healthcare, science, communication, problem-solving, practical skills and long-term patient relationships.
The conversations I had went far beyond grades and applications. It was heartening to hear so many young people talk about wanting to help people, work in healthcare and make a positive difference through their careers.
Like any profession, dentistry comes with challenges — but it is also varied, rewarding and constantly evolving.
Always happy to support and encourage the next generation considering a career in dentistry.
